Logistics
Expect to have a fantastic time...
Often people carpool down to Ventura Harbor on the afternoon before the trip. There are some people driving down from the San Francisco Bay area and others driving down from the Sacramento area. Most people try to leave early on Friday, so we can all have dinner on the wharf before boarding the boat. There are several nice restaurants right next to the boat slip.
After dinner, we board the boat, find our bunk assignments, and stow our gear. You can usually board the boat after 6:00 p.m. Prior to that the crew is cleaning the boat from the previous charter and would prefer that you wait until they've made the boat spotless.
The boat leaves Ventura Harbor late at night (approximately midnight). If you are not on the boat when it leaves, you are out of luck. It is your responsibility to get yourself on the boat in time for departure. While we sleep, the boat heads out to the Channel Islands.
You'll wake up the next morning to a hot breakfast and tremendous diving. Throughout the day we dive at various sites among the Northern Channel Islands, while the excellent staff prepares tasty meals. On this dive trip some people will be U/W hunting, while others will focus on photography or just plain site seeing.
When we arrive at a dive site, the Captain will announce general information about the dive site. It is up to you and your buddy to plan your dive and dive your plan. There are no guided tours. If you don't have a buddy, it is easy to find another person on the boat that will buddy up with you. Remember, you are the person responsible for your safety when you dive.
The price of the trip includes your food, air fills, diving, etc. You'll need to provide your own dive gear, including one tank. It is possible to rent your gear from Peace Scuba Center (866-984-2025). Just tell them you're going on the Peace and they'll be able to set you up with high quality gear for the trip. They'll deliver it to the boat and pick it up for you when the trip is over. It doesn't get easier than that!
We dive all day Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and get back to Ventura harbor around 5:00 pm on Monday.
